Point Pelee

Thousands of International Flights Daily!

Welcome to the region that is world renowned for its spectacular bird migrations. Essex County is a signature birding destination, home to numerous conservation areas, diverse parklands and Point Pelee National Park. Rated as one of the top 15 birding locations in North America by Birder’s World Magazine, Point Pelee is a 15-square-kilometre triangular-shaped sanctuary jutting out into Lake Erie. Located at the crossroads of the Atlantic and Mississippi flyways, the park extends like a welcoming hand to greet tired migrants on their northward journey across the lake each spring. Once rested, shorebirds and colourful songbirds make their way through the region, visiting a mosaic of diverse habitats.

In the spring visitors can celebrate the 3-week-long Festival of Birds hosted by Point Pelee National Park and the Friends of Point Pelee, Spring Song on Pelee Island, and Hillman Marsh's Shore and Songbird Celebration.

Join us for the more leisurely-paced fall experience. Witness the longer fall migration as a myriad of migrants, including monarch butterflies, bats, and birds of prey take to the skies and stop by the Holiday Beach Hawk Festival.

Not all of our activities are for the birds. Peppered throughout the region are small towns rich in antiques, boutiques and the cultural attractions that tell the stories of bygone days. Enjoy the exceptional wineries of the Lake Erie North Shore and share in the bounty that our rich agricultural region provides. At the end of the day, relax in a cozy B&B, friendly motel or 5 star resort hotel; whatever it takes to get you ready to explore us again in the morning.
