A closer look at the House of Miracles

The Construction of a Dream

Brother Andre's dream to build a sacred haven was realized in1904, when a small sanctuary was constructed on Mount Royal.

As time moved on, rumors of Brother Andre's work had spread and as a result, hordes of people came to witness this miracle man on the mountain.

To accommodate the influx of visitors, a crypt church was built in 1917 and would hold up to 1,000 occupants.

Soon after, the church underwent another renovation creating an enormous basilica, but work was halted with the arrival of the Great Depression.

By 1935, the basilica had stood untouched for six years, with no hope of ever being complete. Without any flow of income, the roof of the basilica remained incomplete.

When it seemed that finishing the basilica was a loss, enough money was received and the roof was built. Finally in 1967, the interior of the basilica was finished.
