The symbolic power of the eagle has soared to epic heights over its long history as an emblem of power and strength. Also known as the "lion of the sky," the eagle has been held as the inspiring symbol of some of history's most influential empires, such as Babylon, Persia, Rome, the German Third Reich and the United States.

The eagle's life spent as a high flyer allows it to possess a broad perspective of the world below, which many have considered to be synonymous with success, power, social status and triumph. Its attentive, high-held head gives the eagle an aristocratic appearance and its long powerful wings connote protection, instilling confidence that lends to leadership qualities associated with the winged raptor.

Eagles have also played an important symbolic role in North American First Nation lore. When depicted in totem poles, the eagle stands for honour and wisdom. In the Ojibwa culture, the height of the eagle's flight makes it an ideal carrier of prayers and messenger to the Creator. It is also thought to carry sickness away from the body in healing ceremonies.
