The bald and the beautiful
Rally in the valley
Whatever your sport, if you
can do it outside, you can
do it in the Squamish Valley.
Graced with forests, mountains
and rivers and bordered
by the Pacific Ocean,
the valley — situated at the
head of Howe Sound
between Whistler and
Vancouver — is increasingly
living up to its reputation as
the outdoor recreation capital
of Canada. The Stawamus
Chief, the second largest
free-standing granite monolith
in the world, ranks as
one of the top international rock-climbing destinations,
while the predictable winds
along the Spit, a breakwater
at the mouth of the
Squamish River, bring
national and international
windsurfing championships
to the region each year. In
addition, the world's best
mountain bikers are challenged
by the gruelling
67-kilometre Test of Metal
race held each June.
