Circus city
Plan of action
Beyond tohu's role as a circus arts "city," the
eclectic project is sharing its innovative commitment to the
environment and the community with a new initiative called
C-Vert, which is aimed at getting youth between the ages of
14 and 16 to step into the ring of environmental awareness
and activism.
C-Vert will give Saint-Michel youth the opportunity to learn
about, and act within, their community. The project will offer
nature experiences, lectures and workshops for youth on environmental
and social issues. The goal of the project is to create a
plan of action based on what the young participants determine
to be the community and environmental priorities of Saint-Michel.
Their findings will then be presented to the City of Montréal.
C-Vert hopes to challenge the stereotype that young people
aren't interested in environmental issues.
The project is being lead by the Stephen R. Bronfman Foundation,
who has invested $15 million in projects such as the David Suzuki
Foundation and the Trans Canada Trail since its inception in 1998.
C-Vert is the first project that the foundation will launch on its
own. Other partners in the project include the YMCA, local secondary
schools, the City of Montréal and the borough of Saint-Michel.
