Top design

Targa cars are literally designed for speed, and not just in terms of driving. Targa is short for Targa top, a specific type of car designed with a body style to allow drivers to enter and exit the car quickly to shave precious seconds off of their time while racing.

Targas are semi-convertible, with a roll bar behind the seats, which can be fixed or removable. They are designed with retractable or removable roofs, sometimes constructed from glass.

The term was first used by Porshe in 1962 when they entered the style of car in the Targa Florio. The design was quickly picked up and replicated by Ford and Ferrari in the 1960s and 1970s. The design has since been picked up by Chevrolet, Nissan, Saab, Pontiac, Toyota and Dodge. The design is synonymous with car racing among aficionados.
