Confederation Comes to Life in Charlottetown, PEI
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, is the birthplace of Canada.
And the little island that gave life to a nation is a great place
for a walking tour of our country's history. Charlottetown's
Province House, which preserves the chamber where plans for Canada
were first made, is linked by a National Historic Streetscape to
Founders' Hall. Founder's Hall enshrines the historic
meeting of the Fathers of Confederation in 1864 and uses interactive
displays to trace confederation to the present day. Each summer,
the Confederation Players bring history to life with lively re-enactments
featuring prominent politicians of the day including Sir John A.
Macdonald, George Étienne Cartier and Thomas D'Arcy
McGee. Check the links below for more information on Prince Edward
Island and the making of a nation.
