Industry

There is an intrinsic link between the people and natural resources of Northern Ontario. The human development of the area occurred as a result of plentiful resources both above and below ground. Pulp, paper and fabricated wood products are the main industry in Northern Ontario but the district is also Canada's leading mining area. The Canadian Shield yields a large percent of the world's nickel, along with copper, uranium, zinc, gold, iron ore, platinum and silver.
