Cypress Hills
Leisure and Recreation
There's no shortage of
outdoor activities in the Cypress Hills area, home to the Cypress Hills Interprovincial
Park. In the summer you can camp, picnic, boat, fish, hike, swim, soak up
the sun, water ski, golf, play volleyball or baseball, cycle, or just look
for wildlife as you make your way through the trails and lakes of the area.
In the winter, visitors can take advantage of groomed cross-country ski trails,
downhill skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, tobogganing and winter camping.
The more historically inclined visit Fort Walsh National Historic Site, 40 kilometres from the park.
There you can learn about the history of the Mounties, see traces of ancient camping sites of Aboriginal tribes,
including teepee rings and scattered stone tools, or visit a recreation of a fur-trading post, including refurbished buildings
and costumed interpreters.
