"You Never Forget Your First Time" Photo Contest - Rules

Rules & Regulations

The Contest
This is an online contest only. The contest begins on Friday, October 13, 2006, at 9 a.m. (EST) and closes on Friday, December 8, 2006, at 5 p.m. (EST). Contest winners will be selected by a panel of judges on Monday, January 15, 2007. All winners will be contacted by e-mail by 5 p.m. (EST) on Friday, January 19, 2007. Failure to contact a contest winner will result in a redraw.

Submissions
All submissions must be received by Friday, December 8, 2006. Only digital submissions will be accepted. Canadian Geographic reserves the right to withhold photographs or edit text wherever the content is deemed inappropriate.

Entries
Digital entries may be submitted electronically as jpeg files. Digital files should not exceed 500 pixels wide for a horizontal image or 500 pixels tall for a vertical image, and no larger than 1MB (1,000 KB). Content alteration of digital files is not acceptable; tonal or colour corrections are acceptable, including black and white conversion. Entries must include a 50-word caption identifying the location featured in the photograph and describing what inspired the moment. Model releases are the responsibility of the entrant and must be available in the event the photograph is chosen as a winner. Winning entrants must sign a waiver indicating that the photograph has not been previously published. Each entry must include entrant's name, e-mail and location of the image. Entries not meeting these requirements will not be eligible for judging. All entries become property of Canadian Geographic magazine and are subject to use according to our discretion.

Eligibility
To enter and be eligible to win, you must be a resident of Canada*, of the age of majority in the province or territory where you reside, and not be an employee of, a member of the immediate family of, or cohabitant with an employee of any division of Canadian Geographic Enterprises, The Royal Canadian Geographical Society, the sponsoring or affiliated companies, their subsidiaries, affiliates, and agencies. *Legal considerations require restricting the contest to Canadian residents. (Any litigation respecting the conduct and awarding of a prize in this publicity contest in Quebec may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux for a ruling). Previous winning photographs from Canadian Geographic's Annual Photo Contest are not eligible for prize consideration in "You Never Forget Your First Time."

Disclaimers
In the event that the Grand Prize winner does not utilize any part of the Grand Prize, no cash equivalent or future redeemable certificate(s) will be issued to the Grand Prize winner. Prizes must be accepted as awarded without substitution and is not transferable or convertible to cash and is not for resale. Arizona Tourism reserves the right, in the event that the Grand Prize or a component of the Grand Prize cannot be awarded as described for any reason, to substitute a prize or prize component for one of equal or greater value, or, at their sole discretion, the cash value of the prize, without liability. Actual retail value may vary, depending on the place of departure and airfare fluctuations. Hub cities include Vancouver, Edmonton, Regina, Toronto, Montréal, Fredericton, Halifax and St. John's. The winner and his/her travel guests must each have the appropriate identification required for airport check-in and will be responsible for arranging travel documents required for travel at their own expense. The winner and his/her travel guests must depart from the same airport and travel on the same itinerary and are responsible for ground transfers to and from the designated airport, all departure taxes (at the time of booking) or other applicable taxes, travel and medical insurance, meals and beverages, gas, tips and gratuities, hotel services (if any), items of a personal nature, additional spending money, incidentals and all other costs and expenses not specifically stated as included herein. The trip must be taken any time before the end of 2007, excluding blackout dates, and will not be rescheduled or substituted once booked. Dinner does not include alcohol or gratuities. Hiking and biking guided tours are for all skill levels and included snacks. Travel arrangements must be booked by contest winner through Canadian Geographic.

Publication
The winner's names and photographs may be published in the Spring/Summer 2007 Canadian Geographic Travel. The winner's photographs and 50-word description will be displayed on the Travel section of the Canadian Geographic website. Canadian Geographic reserves the right to edit entrant's copy to suit editorial guidelines. Canadian Geographic will retain the winning entries and reserves the right to publish any entry and/or use of it in promotional material.

Responsibility
No responsibility will be taken for any lost, damaged or delayed entry due to failure of the website during the promotion or for any problems or technical malfunction of computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software and failure of any e-mail or online entry submitted for "Canadian Geographic Travel's ‘First Time' Photo Contest." Likewise, no responsibility will be taken for technical problems or traffic congestion on the web or at any website or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person's computer or property related to or resulting from participating in this promotion. Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are incomplete, mutilated, forged, falsified, altered, tampered with in any way or in violation of the contest rules.

By participating in the Travel Contest, entrants accept and agree to:
a) these Official Contest Rules and the decisions regarding any aspect of the contest, which shall be final and binding in all respects; and b) release, discharge and hold harmless all contest management and its sponsors, including Canadian Geographic Enterprises, The Royal Canadian Geographical Society, Arizona Tourism, Pentax Canada, Mountain Equipment Co-op and their respective program sponsors, participating members, their respective member financial institutions, their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, direct ors and employees, including their promotional agencies and the independent contest judging organization, from any liability, claims or damages arising out of their participation in the contest and the acceptance or use, misuse or possession of any prize.
