Rules & Regulations
Eligibility
All entries must be Canadian content. The contest is open to all Canadian residents*
except directors and employees of Canadian Geographic Enterprises, The Royal
Canadian Geographical Society, any of the sponsoring companies
or affiliated companies. This includes their immediate families,
cohabitants, agents or contractors. Photos entered must not have been
previously published. Individuals can only win once per category,
but may win in multiple categories. *Legal considerations require
restricting the contest to Canadian residents. Our apologies to members
residing outside the country. Any litigation respecting the conduct
and awarding of a prize in this publicity contest in Québec
may be submitted to the Régis des alcools, des courses et des
jeux for a ruling.
Format
Colour or black and white prints must be at least 5" x 7",
not more than 8" x 12", and unmounted. 35 mm colour slides
and transparencies must be mounted. Original
slides must be available for magazine reproduction.
Digital entries may be submitted
electronically as jpeg files or jpeg files burned
to CD.
Digital files should be at least 1600 pixels wide for a horizontal
image or 1600 pixels tall for a vertical image, and no larger than
4MB (4,000 KB). If submitting a print from a digital file, the
print should match the quality and character of the original file;
do not send colour photocopies. Content
alteration of digital files is not acceptable; cropping of photos is permitted, tonal or
colour corrections are acceptable, including black and white conversion.
Entries and Identification
Limit of two entries per category per entrant. All entries may
be submitted in one envelope. Each entry must have a fully completed
entry form (photocopies acceptable) affixed with tape to the back
of each photograph. If an entry is received without one clearly
designated category, judges reserve the right to place the entry
in an appropriate category.
Publication
Winners' names and photographs will be published in a future issue
of Canadian
Geographic and on www.canadiangeographic.ca.
Canadian Geographic reserves the non-exclusive right to publish any
entry and/or use any entry in promotional material. Model releases
are the responsibility of the entrant and must be available in the
event the photo is a winner.
Deadline
Mailed entries must be postmarked on or before September
28, 2007 and must be received by October 15, 2007. Hand-delivered
entries must be received by 4:00 p.m. EST. Mail or hand-deliver entries
to: Canadian Geographic Photo Contest, 39 McArthur Avenue, Ottawa,
Ontario, K1L 8L7. Entries uploaded through the contest website, www.canadiangeographic.ca/photocontest,
must be uploaded before 4:00 p.m. EST on September 28, 2007.
Judging
The winners will be selected by a panel of judges in Ottawa, Ontario
on October 30, 2007. Winners will be notified by 5 p.m. EST on November
2, 2007. Decision of the judges is final.
Return of Entries
Winning entries will be temporarily retained by Canadian Geographic.
All other contestants who provide a pre-paid return envelope for
their entries will have their entries returned by February 27, 2008.
Responsibility
Canadian Geographic cannot be held responsible for entries that
are lost, damaged, or delayed during transportation.
Canadian Geographic Enterprises is not responsible for any failure of the website
during this contest. Nor is it responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of
computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software or any e-mail,
online or internet entry lost due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet
or at any website or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to an entrant’s
or any other person’s computer or property related to or resulting from playing or downloading
any material in the promotion.

Pre-Departure Information
We will send you a pre-departure package including a statement
of account, insurance information, a detailed trip handbook describing
the destinations planned for your expedition, and a pre-departure
information booklet describing life aboard ship, recommended reading
list, packing suggestions and other useful travel tips. The booklet
includes a brief and confidential General Medical Form that must
be completed and returned to Cruise North prior to departure.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
In the event of a cancellation you must notify Cruise North immediately
and in writing. No partial refunds or credits will be given for
services not used.
Flight Arrangements
Flights are organized on a group basis and are included in the
itineraries where indicated. Please advise Cruise North of details
of your flight from your hometown to our departure gateway, Montreal.
No refunds are available for charter flights that are included in
the itineraries. Group flight times cannot be guaranteed until 30
days prior to departure. Deviations outside group arrangements will
be subject to an administration fee of $50, plus the difference
in the fares, if applicable. No transfers are provided when deviations
are made from the group itinerary.
All flights are subject to the rules and regulations of the air
carrier. Flight times, itineraries and carriers are subject to change.
We recommend that you contact the airline within 24 hours of departure
to reconfirm your departure time, and check in with the airline
2 hours prior to departure (3 hours prior for international flights).
Insurance
Medical insurance is mandatory and may be purchased through Cruise
North at time of booking. Cruise North operates in remote regions,
therefore requiring all passengers to have a minimum of $100,000
emergency medical evacuation insurance and a minimum of $50,000
emergency medical coverage.
Tickets & Travel Documentation
Tickets and trip documentation will be issued approximately three
weeks prior to departure.
Itineraries
Weather, ice and government regulations may require changes to
be made to the itineraries and/or the cancellation of certain shore
excursions. Every attempt, within the limits of time and safety,
will be made to adhere to the itineraries described. Unusually strong
tides and currents combined with drifting sea ice means our route
and landing sites will vary from one expedition to the next. Wildlife
sightings and some activities depend on favourable conditions. In
the event of changes, passengers are not entitled to any refund
or other compensation. Expedition fees are based on group participation.
Should you choose not to take part in any activity or make use of
services provided, no refund will be given. Vessels and dates are
subject to change. Please see Cruise North brochure
for full terms and conditions.
Identification
Valid photo identification (preferably passport) is required for
all voyages with Cruise North.
Responsibility
Cruise North Expeditions Inc. (Cruise North), Makivik Corporation,
the Travel Network Corporation, Nunavut Tourism and their affiliated
or associated operators and booking agents of the ship, and all
other related persons shall not be held responsible for any damages,
including damages resulting from illness, personal injury, death
or damage to or loss of property, which may be sustained as a direct
or indirect result of any person’s participation in any manner
in an expedition or related activities, irrespective of whether
or not such damages may be attributed to any act or omission of
Cruise North, to any act or omission of any person other than Cruise
North, or to any other event or occurrence whatever. Each participant
shall be deemed to agree to the above exclusion for damages and
to acknowledge the potential hazards of an expedition upon booking.
Passengers will be issued with a Passage Ticket Contract. Please
read this document upon receipt. In accepting this contract passengers
agree to be bound by its terms and conditions. Details of the Passage
Ticket Contract are available on the Cruise North website, or may
be obtained from Cruise North on written request. Cruise North reserves
the right to cancel or withdraw any person as a member of an expedition
at any time upon refunding a portion of the expedition fee determined
by Cruise North in its sole discretion. Cruise North is not responsible
for any errors or omissions contained in this brochure. All participants
on Cruise North expeditions are covered by the terms of the Ontario
Travel Industry Act through The Travel Network Corp., Ontario License
#2455619 and Network Tours #50015018.
Cancellation of a Tour by Cruise North
Cruise North Expeditions Inc. and Nunavut Tourism reserves the
right to cancel a tour for any reason, but will not cancel a tour
less than 60 days before departure except for force majeure, unusual
or unforeseen circumstances outside the company’s control.
If a tour is canceled for such cause, the company will offer an
alternative tour as a replacement. In such case the company
reserves the right to select which tour is offered. In no
case will the company be responsible to refund any cash value should
the client choose not to accept the alternative tour. Cruise North
and Nunavut Tourism is not responsible for any incidental expenses
the client may have incurred as a result of booking, such as visas,
vaccinations, non-refundable connecting flights or loss of enjoyment,
etc. If the alternative tour chosen by the client is of a higher
price than that originally chosen then the client must pay the difference.
Alternate cruise choice subject to availability and on a first come
first served basis.
Additional Rules & Regulations
All reservations will be made by Nunavut Tourism in conjunction
with Cruise North on behalf of the winners. Planning of the vacation
with Nunavut Tourism and Cruise North must begin at least 60 days
in advance of trip dates and winner must provide a minimum of two
possible vacation dates. Prize vacation must be taken between August
14, 2008 and September 30, 2008 and is for two people, one
of which must be at least the age of majority. Reservations must
be made and confirmed 120 days in advance and are subject to availability.
Prize vacation is not transferable, refundable and cannot be substituted.
Once the itinerary has been confirmed with winners and tickets have
been issued, no changes will be permitted. Tickets cannot be re-issued.
Winner and guest must travel on the same itinerary, departing and
returning together to the same location. Stopovers to and from air
and cruise departure is not permitted. The trip is to begin
and end at the airport served by the aforementioned cities: Winnipeg,
Edmonton, Toronto or Ottawa. The winner is responsible for transportation
to and from that airport. These rules and regulations are for the
prize vacation as described by above. Prize vacation may be modified
based on availability or changes as deemed necessary by Cruise North
and/or Nunavut Tourism. Cruise North or Nunavut Tourism is not responsible
for any errors or omissions contained herein.
