Canadian Geographic Enterprises to release new travel issues

TORONTO, July 10, 2006 - Canadian Geographic Enterprises today announced that it is increasing the publishing frequency of its award-winning magazine, Canadian Geographic, to eight issues per year.

The expanded publishing schedule includes two themed issues titled Canadian Geographic Travel, which will be released for November 2006 and May 2007. "You could say we have been preparing the terrain because everything we do in Canadian Geographic excites reader interest in travel," says Rick Boychuk, editor-in-chief. "For the last seven years, we have also produced the Travel & Adventure digest. The new Travel magazine will have all of the finest qualities of the two publications combined. We're engaging the best writers in the country to share stories that go way beyond what you find in other publications. Now, we won't simply excite each reader's interest in Travel, but will move them to act on the dreams our stories inspire." A companion Travel website, which will link to the groundbreaking "Canadian Atlas Online," is also being developed for www.canadiangeographic.ca

The travel-themed issues, the first of which will hit newsstands on October 19, 2006, will feature a new design by Suzanne Morin, Canadian Geographic's creative director who comes to the magazine after a distinguished career in Montréal and in New York City where she worked at the world-renowned studio Pentagram Design Inc. and later as art director of Audubon Magazine.

According to the Print Measurement Bureau, Canadian Geographic has, in the last decade, dominated its competitive set among Canadians who travel in and out of Canada. "The Leading National Advertiser data show that Canadian Geographic has the largest market share of travel advertisers among its primary competitors," says Paula Prociuk Blacklock, vice-president of advertising sales and marketing. "No one in our competitive set is even close. Now we have the opportunity to offer clients a dedicated service-oriented travel and leisure product."

Canadian Geographic was founded in 1930 by The Royal Canadian Geographical Society. The magazine has gained national and international recognition for its editorial content and design, and for its travel coverage. Canadian Geographic's paid circulation is 220,000 and nearly 40 percent of its readers live in Ontario. Canadian Geographic Enterprises is the publisher of Canadian Geographic, géographica, and a backlist of popular trade books about travel in Canada, including the official guides and regional maps for the TransCanada Trail, and the TransCanada Ecotours series. It also produces a wide range of online travel resources housed at www.canadiangeographic.ca
