Romancing the Stone
Excavate the storied history of jade through the ages with Cathy
Scott-Clark and Adrian Levy's The
Stone of Heaven: Unearthing the Secret History of Imperial Green
Jade (Back Bay Books, 2003).
Chip away at the mining history in Stan Leaming and Rick Hudson's Jade
Fever, Hunting the Stone of Heaven (Heritage House 2005)
and dig into the B.C. jade trade by visiting Jade
West.
Or search for your own stone of heaven using Fred and Charlotte Ward's
illustrated rockhound's reference Jade (Gem Guides Book
Company,2001)
For an artist's perspective, browse through Lyle
Sopel's wildife work or Deobrah
Wilson's abstract shapes and green peppers.
Wildwood Childhood
Visit the University of Manitoba's analysis of the urban
wildlife and flood management in Wildwood where you will also
find a long list of references for further reading and a few pictures
including a couple of interesting archival photos of Wildwood during
the flood of 1950.
Download this document, openspace.eca.ac.uk/conference/proceedings/PDF/Martin.pdf,
for an academic comparison of Wildwood with two other similar North
American communities in California and New Jersey.
Wildwood was inspired by Clarence Stein and Henry Wright's design
for Radburn, New Jersey. Read how Radburn fits into the history
of planned communities or get a more thorough overview
of the town.
