Canadians Michael de Jong and Henry Gold founded the 11,500-kilometre Tour d’Afrique in 2002. The 120-day bicycle race starts at the Giza pyramids, in ElQâhira (Cairo), Egypt, and ends, 120 days later, at Cape Town, South Africa. Racers pay $8,000 (U.S.) to enter, and the money goes to promote sustainable transportation and African biodiversity.
