Scientists are working on a cure for capripox, a range of diseases as damaging as hoof-and-mouth, that affects goats, sheep and cattle. Because Canada is already infected, the research is being conducted at the National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease in Winnipeg. This avoids danger to capripox-free, but threatened, Australia.


The Canadian Moose Ice Hockey Club has played on an open rink in the mountains near Alexandra, New Zealand. The club tours annually, and the players, ranging in age from 18 to 62, have set up teams and leagues in a string of arenas across Australia and New Zealand.



Providing echoes of home, the Canadian Australian Club in Sydney hosts the annual Canada Day Ball, where a club executive dressed up as "Shanilla Twine." Not to be outdone, the Quebec / Australia Association celebrates St. Jean Baptiste Day with beer from home.
