Anarctica

Students On Ice, an educational project based in Chelsea, Que., takes high school students on learning expeditions to Antarctica and the Arctic. Accompanied by scientists from all over the world, the students learn about environmental research, flora and fauna and exploration around the poles.

To understand climate change, the University of Toronto’s Marianne Douglas studies micro-fossils in the sediment of lake beds in Antarctica and the Canadian Arctic. She says drastic warming has taken place in the Canadian Arctic in the past 200 years, a very recent span in climate studies.
