Irish settlers
After a potato famine spread through Ireland in the 1840s, large numbers of Irish settlers arrived in Canada. Many of them helped build Canada’s transportation infrastructure, such as the Rideau Canal and Canadian Pacific Railway.

First Nations >> A band or community of native Indians that is recognized by the Canadian government. First Nations is now the commonly accepted term to describe Aboriginal people.
